The last time the concentration of Earth's main greenhouse gas reached 400 ppm, the Arctic was ice-free and sea levels were many meters

Pre-1959 data comes from ice core data taken from Antarctica. CO2 concentration at the Mauna Loa Observatory reached a daily record of 421.21 Parts Per Million (PPM) on April 3. This is the first time in the recent measured record that PPM has topped 420 PPM. This map shows peak PPM values per year dating to the 1970s. This is more than what had happened naturally over a 20,000 year period (from the Last Glacial Maximum to 1850, from 185 ppm to 280 ppm). The time series below shows global distribution and variation of the concentration of mid-tropospheric carbon dioxide in parts per million (ppm). The global surface average for carbon dioxide (CO2), calculated from measurements collected at NOAA’s remote sampling locations, was 412.5 parts per million (ppm) in 2020, rising by 2.6 ppm during the year. The global rate of increase was the fifth-highest in NOAA’s 63-year record, following 1987, 1998, 2015 and 2016.

2018-09-19 · The Keeling Curve is a daily record of global atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration maintained by Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Full Record. 2021-04-05 · 416 ppm. Carbon dioxide (CO 2) is an important heat-trapping (greenhouse) gas, which is released through human activities such as deforestation and burning fossil fuels, as well as natural processes such as respiration and volcanic eruptions.

Data are reported as a dry air mole fraction defined as the number of molecules of carbon dioxide divided by the number of all molecules in air, including CO 2 itself, after water vapor has been removed. The mole fraction is expressed as parts per million (ppm).

All farmers should consider CO2 as a nutrient. CO2 and Past Climates As a point of reference, pre-industrial CO2 levels were around 280 parts per million (ppm) and today, we stand at 410ppm. The most distant period in time for which we have estimated CO2 levels is around the Ordovician period, 500 million years ago. At the time, atmospheric CO2 concentration was at a whopping 3000 to 9000 ppm! There has historically been much more CO2 in our atmosphere than exists today.

CO2 is not causing warming or climate change. It is not a toxic substance or a pollutant. Climate Milestone: Earth's CO2 Level Passes 400 ppm Climate Milestone: Earth's CO2 Level Passes 400 ppm Today, greenhouse gasses in the Earth's atmosphere are at their highest since the Pliocene Era, when sea levels were higher and the Earth was warmer. Jag beräknar att vi i slutet av 2016 går vi över gränsen 400 ppm CO2 för gott. Packa väskan och spänn fast bältet.
